In line with our vision to be The Leading ASEAN Franchise, CIMB Group is committed towards building the region’s intellectual properties and capabilities. With this in mind, CIMB Group has established the CIMB Regional Scholarship, which aims to provide outstanding individuals from all ASEAN countries a chance to pursue full-time postgraduate degree programmes at top graduate schools throughout the world.

For this purpose, CIMB Group seeks highly talented individuals who have attained an impressive track record of academic and personal achievements and can see themselves playing a significant role in the development of the ASEAN region.

This year, we are seeking to award five scholarships to deserving individuals in two areas: Genetics and Nutrition studies.

How To Apply

  1. Download the application form and complete all sections of it.
  2. Email the completed form to regionalscholarship@cimb.com before the closing date, 8 July 2012.

Important information regarding submission of your application

  1. We do not allow the application form to be modified in any manner. Application forms which are modified will not be accepted.
  2. Do not attach any documents to the email other than the completed application form. We do not require certifications, commendation letters or other documents at this stage.
  3. Please submit your application only once.

Eligibility & Scholarship Coverage
To apply for the CIMB Regional Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a citizen of any ASEAN country.
  • Have gained unconditional acceptance at a top graduate school to pursue a postgraduate degree programme in genetics or nutrition. The offer must remain valid when the CIMB Regional Scholarship is awarded.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree with minimum CGPA of 3.00/4.00 or equivalent (for Master’s Degree applicants), or a Master’s Degree with a good examiner’s report or equivalent (for Doctoral Degree applicants) that is relevant to the course or field applied.
  • Not hold any other scholarships, awards or grants that come with any contractual obligation on your part.

Relevant work experience, where applicable, is an added advantage.

The CIMB Regional Scholarship is a full scholarship award covering all academic fees including registration, tuition and examination fees, a book allowance, as well as other expenses such as accommodation, airfare, travel documents and other related expenses.

Genetics
DNA is the hereditary molecule that is found in all living cells. It is the simplest building block of life that is responsible for the observable diversity across and between all species. Ever since the double helix was discovered by Watson and Crick, research into genetics has increased exponentially. The implications of genetic research have been paramount to advances in many fields such as medicine and agriculture.

Nutrition
In terms of nutritional science, studies on the responses of the human body to diet and nutrients are essential for the continued well-being of ASEAN communities. This is particularly important in combating malnutrition, obesity and other health issues. In addition, given the significance of agriculture to the region’s economy and food self-sufficiency, plant nutrition and animal nutrition in relation to livestock are also key areas of research.

Selection Process
The assessment process comprises three stages as follows:

Stage 1
We screen all applicants to ensure that they meet all eligibility criteria, and will shortlist applicants based on the following pre-selection criteria:

  • Academic or career and other relevant achievements
  • Proposed postgraduate programme and whether the knowledge gained will significantly benefit the ASEAN region
  • Proposed graduate school and whether it is one of the top graduate schools in the world for the field of study
  • Applicant’s personal statement on contribution to the ASEAN region after completion of studies

The above list is not exhaustive and CIMB Group reserves the right to amend the criteria from time to time.

Stage 2
Applicants will go through several online assessments.

Stage 3
Applicants will be interviewed by a panel of interviewers.

We will notify only shortlisted candidates for Stages 2 and 3. Selection Criteria
We will select candidates for the CIMB Regional Scholarship based primarily on the following criteria:

  • A track record of outstanding achievements that are relevant to the proposed field of study
  • Demonstrate the potential to contribute significantly to the region through the proposed field of study
  • Active involvement in extra-curricular activities
  • Leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, energy levels and other personal attributes

The list of criteria is not exhaustive and CIMB Group reserves the right to amend the criteria from time to time.

1) Who can apply for the CIMB Regional Scholarship?
All citizens of ASEAN countries who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree in the field of Nutrition and Genetics at a top graduate school.

2) Do I need to have been accepted by a graduate school to apply?
Yes, at the point the scholarship is awarded. However, if you have already applied to a graduate school and are waiting for the outcome of their applications may also apply. In this case, a scholarship will only be awarded upon your gaining unconditional acceptance by the school.

3) Can I apply if I am currently undergoing a postgraduate programme?
Yes, you can apply for the CIMB Regional Scholarship provided that you meet the eligibility criteria.

4) How do I apply?
Download the application form, complete it and submit it to us before the closing date, 8 July 2012.

5) Are there any guidelines on how to complete the application form?
You may refer to this sample on how to complete the application form

6) Can I alter or add additional columns / fields to the application form?
No, you must keep to the standard format of the application form strictly.

7) How will I know that CIMB Group has received my application?
You will receive an e-mail notification once we had received your application.

8) How will I know whether I am shortlisted?
We will notify all shortlisted applicants for further assessment and/or interview, latest by 31 July 2012. However, no notifications will be sent to applicants who have not been shortlisted.

9) Can I appeal if I’m not shortlisted?
No, all decisions of the selection committee are final.

10) I missed the application deadline. Can I submit my application manually?
No. Only applications submitted by 8 July 2012 to regionalscholarship@cimb.com will be accepted. Any applications made after the deadline will not be considered.

11) What is the coverage of the CIMB Regional Scholarship?
The CIMB Regional Scholarship is a full scholarship award covering all academic fees including registration, tuition and examination fees, a book allowance, as well as other expenses such as accommodation, airfare, travel documents and other related expenses.

12) If I do not complete the programme or fail to obtain the postgraduate degree, do I need to repay CIMB Group?
Yes, you will need to repay all expenditure borne by CIMB Group.

13) Will I be bonded with CIMB Group upon graduation?
No, you will not be bonded with CIMB Group. However, in line with the objectives of the scholarship, you must contribute back to the region by working in any ASEAN country for a minimum of three years upon graduation.

14) I have family members working in CIMB Group; can I apply for the scholarship?
Yes, you can as long as you meet all the eligibility criteria.
