The Chinese Government Scholarship 2012-2013 is now available for overseas students to pursue master’s degree or doctor’s degree at Chongqing University.

Note:
- Applicants shall only apply for full-time degree program at Chongqing University.
- HSK level 4 or above certificate is required for Chinese-instructed degree program applicants. Students may apply for a one-year Chinese foundation program and must pass HSK test before starting their major courses.
- For English-instructed degree program applicants, applicants are supposed to submit IELTS 6.0 or equivalent language proficiency certificate. Students who are accepted and do not obtain language proficiency certificates may take TOEFL ITP in the first semester at Chongqing University.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be non-Chinese nationals in good health.
- Education background and age limit:
- Applicants for master degree studies must have a bachelor’s degree and be under the age of 35.
- Applicants for Doctoral degree studies must have a master’s degree and be under the age of 40.
Details of Full Scholarship
- Exempt from registration fee, tuition fee, fee for basic learning materials and on-campus accommodation;
- Living allowance and a one-off settlement subsidy for new overseas students;
- Fee for outpatient medical service, Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China;
- Fee for a one-off inter-city travel by train;
Note:
- Costs of the laboratory experiment or internship beyond the university’s arrangements should be paid by the student him/herself.
- Fee for basic learning materials covers the necessary learning materials prescribed by the host institution, and other materials shall be paid by the student him/herself.
- Monthly living allowance is paid to the students by the host institution at the following rates (CNY Yuan per month):
- Master degree students, general scholars: CNY 1,700 Yuan
- Doctoral degree students, senior scholars: CNY 2,000 Yuan
- A one-off settlement subsidy after registration
- CNY 1,500 Yuan for new overseas students who will study in China over one academic year or more
- Fee for outpatient medical service refers to the outpatient expense incurred in the CQU hospital or the hospitals appointed by CQU. The students should pay a certain percentage of expense in accordance with the institution’s relevant regulations.
- Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for International Students in China is insured by Ministry of Education of China for the scholarship students in China against diseases and accidents. The institution is entitled to ask for compensation on the payment receipts from the insurance company for the expenses generated from hospitalizing for serious diseases or from accidental injury according to the stipulated insurance articles.
- A one-off inter-city travel ticket (each for coming-in and leaving China)
Scholarship students are supposed to choose the nearest port to their admitting institutions for inter-city travel and a hard-seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided to freshmen transferring from the port of entry to the city where the admitting institution is located and students finishing study in China transferring from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port for departure. Expenses for food during the trip and excess of baggage should be self-afforded.
- International travel expenses shall be self-afforded.
Application Materials
Applicants are required to submit application on the website of China Scholarship Council and have the application printed and send it together with other documents required to the International Students Office, Chongqing University.
The applicants must fill in the application form and provide the following materials truly and correctly (one original and three copies).
- Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (printed by CSC), in Chinese or in English. Applicants are required to submit application on the website of China Scholarship Council and have the application printed. - Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). If applicants are university students or already employed, they should also provide documents of being university students or on-post employees. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
- Applicants for master’s degree shall provide notarized transcripts for bachelor’s degree. Applicants for doctor’s degree shall provide notarized transcripts for master’s degree. Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with translations in Chinese or English.
- A study or research plan in Chinese or in English (no less than 800 words).
- Applicants shall submit two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English by professors or associate professors.
- Applicants for music are requested to submit one cassette recording of the applicants’ own work. Applicants for fine arts must submit six color photographs of personal works (two sketches, two color paintings and two other works).
- Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by Chinese quarantine authority) filled in English. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. The medical examination results will be valid for 6 months. Students who win the scholarship will be required to retake physical examination when they arrive in China in September, 2012. All applicants are kindly requested to take this factor into consideration while determining the time to take the medical examination.
- English or Chinese language proficiency certificate. (IELTS, TOEFL or HSK)
Application materials will not be returned regardless of the result of application.
Approval and Notification
- Applicants are required to fill the application form online and submit application materials by post to Chongqing University International Student Office before March 20th, 2012. The office will submit qualified application materials to China Scholarship Council for approval. The application will be seen as invalid and will not be processed if the applicants are not qualified or the application materials are inconsistent with the enrollment regulations or are incomplete.
- Chongqing University International Student Office will inform the scholarship applicants of final results and send Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to Scholarship applicants accepted by July 30th 2012.
- Students are not permitted, in principle, to change their specialties, institutions, or the duration of study specified in the Admission Notice after registration.
