The PhD candidate will conduct a study of the design practices of telemonitoring technologies currently developed and implemented in health care in Europe. In your research you will employ and further develop theoretical perspectives of sociology and philosophy of technology concerning the co-construction of users, technologies and norms of care.
Requirements
You have a master degree in one of the social sciences (technology and culture; philosophy of technology; sociology; or media studies) and affinity with societal problems related to the introduction of ICT in healthcare. You are motivated and able to work independently as well as in collaborative projects.

Research is accommodated within the university research institutes: The Institute for Governance Studies (IGS), the Centre for Telematics and Information Technology (CTIT) and the Center of expertise in Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research (CHOIR). The School has approximately 350 staff and 2,200 students.

We offer a very challenging position in an inspiring environment. As a PhD candidate you will be appointed in a full-time position for a period of four years, at the end of which you must have completed your PhD thesis. The gross monthly salary for a PhD increases from 2042 in the first year to 2612 in the final year (in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities). In addition, the University of Twente offers additional attractive employment conditions. We provide a PhD educational programme within the research school WTMC (Netherlands Graduate School of Science, Technology and Modern Culture).
