The Department of English and Creative Writing, Roehampton University, is pleased to invite applications for three PhD scholarships. Applications are sought from suitably-qualified people wishing to pursue research leading to PhD status under the supervision of leading researchers.

The Jacqueline Wilson Scholarship

Donated by Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Roehampton University Professorial Fellow and Pro-Chancellor, this PhD scholarship will be based in our award-winning National Centre for Research into Children’s Literature, for research into:

  • Children’s Literature
  • Creative Writing for Children

Two Further PhD Scholarships in English Literature, Children’s Literature or Creative Writing

All three scholarships cover full-time home/EU fees for three years, subject to satisfactory progress. Part-time and international students are welcome to apply. International students would be responsible for paying the difference between home/EU and overseas fees.


The Department currently hosts three MA programmes and four research centres; this is a lively research community, which performed strongly in the 2008 RAE. See our website for details of staff specialisms and further details about the Department.

Closing date: 30 June 2011.
Interviews will take place week beginning 25 July 2011.
Studentships will start in October 2011
