The University of Luxembourg has the following vacancy in the Mathematics Research Unit of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication.
One assistant position (PhD-student) in mathematics (M/F)
Temporary contract for two years, renewable once for additional two years, 40 hours/week, starting 1st October 2010 or later.
Area: Decision Mathematics (aggregation functions, functional equations …)
Requirements: Master degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics of high quality, a degree in Applied Mathematics will also be accepted. A master thesis written in Analysis, Algebra, or Discrete Mathematics will be preferable.
The position concerns only candidates who want to prepare a PhD thesis (before a contract can be established it is required that the successful candidate registers as a PhD student at the University of Luxembourg)
We expect
- dedication for doing mathematical research and willingness to integrate the existing team
- willingness to prepare a PhD thesis
- good knowledge of mathematical analysis and algebra
- good written and oral English skills, some basic knowledge of French will be an advantage
- readiness to develop some knowledge of French (if needed)
- a limited teaching activity (1-3 hours/week)
